When location is available, it's used for exactly one thing: helping your assistant understand roughly where you are — enough to know you're near Moab, not exactly which pullout you parked in — so it can actually answer "near me" instead of asking you to spell it out. It's context for that conversation, and nothing else. Not for ads, not for tracking you across the app, not shared with other Grover users.
