Grover is now listed as Grover: Camping and Community. There is a new rig logo, and the van silhouette is out of the interface.
The name is new. The idea is not. Grover has been built for people who camp out of whatever they own since the beginning, and the app finally says so out loud.
Why Change It Now
Because the old name was doing quiet damage at the door.
Someone with a truck camper looks at an app called Van Life and decides it is not for them, before ever finding out that their rig assistant would happily talk through their payload math. Someone with a Class C sees a van silhouette and assumes the whole thing was built around a Sprinter. Neither was ever true, but a name is the first thing anyone reads, and it was answering a question we did not want it to answer.
Nothing about how Grover works changed with the rename. Your assistant, your Circles, your pins, and your Rig Hub all sit exactly where they did. This is the label catching up to the product.
Who Is Already Out Here
The rename is not aspirational. It describes the people already using Grover today.
- Truck campers, riding on everything from a Tacoma to an F-550 flatbed
- Class C and Class B coaches, including a good number on Transit cutaway chassis
- Pickups and SUVs, some with rooftop tents, some with canopy campers
- A towable, and one genuinely excellent shuttle bus conversion
The range inside a single category is wider than people expect. Among the truck campers on Grover, fresh water capacity runs from about ten gallons to seventy, and battery banks span from a few hundred amp hours to over fifteen hundred. Those are not different preferences. They are different rigs entirely, and generic advice serves none of them well.
Vans Are Still the Heart of It
Let's be clear about this, because a rename can read like a pivot and this is not one.
Vans are still the bulk of the rigs on Grover, they always will be, and the Sprinter, Transit, and ProMaster crowd is not being deprioritized in favor of anything. The vanlife guides are not going anywhere. The van build specs guide is still the deepest thing we have written about a rig, and it stays that way.
Nothing gets taken away from van owners by making a truck camper owner feel like the app was built for them too. That was the point of the original plan, and the plan has not changed.
What This Means for Your Rig
One practical thing, and it is the same regardless of what you sleep in: fill in your spec sheet.
Tap Rig, then Specs. There are eight sections, and the tile keeps a running count of how many have something in them. Your rig assistant has been reading that sheet all along, so the more of it you fill in, the more its answers describe your rig instead of rigs in general. That effect has never depended on your rig being a van.
Saving the sheet does one more thing worth knowing about. Grover re-runs the match against the documentation available for your rig right then, so new manuals show up under Suggested in your Glovebox on their own. Confirm the ones you want and your assistant starts answering from them too.
If your rig is not a van, the fields still fit better than you would guess. Fill in what applies, skip what does not, and put anything unusual in Custom Equipment. A partly filled sheet beats a perfect one you never start.
